Production Design Work

Below is a sampling of my Production Design work for Film,
Television, Music Videos, and Internet.

Please note: This list of projects does not reflect all current work. Feel free to contact me for updates regarding recent and present projects.

PRODUCTION DESIGNER:

2008

Feature Film / "The Last Appeal"

The Last Appeal is a film for Loyola Marymount about the life of St. Faustina who was canonized in 2000 by Pope John Paul II. St. Faustina died in Krakow, Poland in 1938, and therefore it was necessary to recreate Poland during this period.

What an amazing and gratifying challenge. It involved much research not only concerning "time", but also of specific items of "place".

I enjoyed the fact that this story was told visually right from day one. All the more reason to take great care. If a film transports you to 1938 Krakow, Poland, and in the background you see a cordless phone, the illusion is shattered and credibility is compromised. A humorous example, but you get the idea. It is always about the details in good design - always.

2007

Music Video / "That's More Like It" by Macka

This fabulous music video posed very design-specific challenges. The project involved getting into the director's head and creating those abstract images of an alley inside a sound stage. To do the job right it was essential to redress for each scene. Take a look and see what you think!

ART DIRECTOR:

2007

Internet / "That's Revolting!" (Product: Agion, Nature's Antimicrobial)

In this fantastic project, featuring Florence Henderson, we had access to the original "Brady Bunch" set. Yes, it actually still exists at Paramount Studio’s North Hollywood warehouse. However, due to legal limitations, we could not exactly duplicate the original setup used by the "Brady Bunch". This posed a very interesting creative challenge for us: to replicate the look and feel of the Brady environment without copying it. Curious? See the great results achieved at www.thatsrevolting.com. Click on each of the four amusing scenes for a good laugh and to see my work in art direction.

2006

Feature Film / "Heart of Fear"

A challenge of working on this straight-to-video feature was its ultra-low budget. As an art director, it required me to become a creative chameleon! Dumpster diving and long hours became essential in bringing this project to fruition. You can read all about “Heart of Fear” here.

SET DECORATOR:

2006

Television / "Creative Juice" on HGTV

The assignment for “Creative Juice” required working with a very hands-on producer who needed to recreate - on a larger scale - the look of a previous set. What a great challenge, but the final look of the show and its consequent Emmy nomination made it all so worthwhile. Check it out here!

LEADMAN:

2007

Feature Film / "Ladrón que roba a ladrón"

Collaborated with major South American talent, a great director, an amazing DP - and under the skilled direction of a tenured production designer. All of this made working on this film a very enriching experience. Trailer found here.

What I am most proud of is the seamless marriage between the locations used and the sets built to match them. I must make a special mention of my art director and set director who rounded out a great Art Department. A true pleasure to work with this team.
